Lab41 is a “challenge lab” where the U.S. Intelligence Community comes together with their counterparts in academia, industry, and In-Q-Tel to tackle big data.
Innovation Through Collaboration
When it comes to big data, it can be difficult to know where to start, what to ask, or how to ask it.
Four Groups, One Mission
Lab41 is a Silicon Valley challenge lab where experts from the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC), academia, industry, and In-Q-Tel come together to gain a better understanding of how to work with – and ultimately use – big data.
Lab41 focuses on these three core areas:
Can Big Data be made “intelligent?”
Can we develop features that allow it to connect dots that analysts are unaware of, but should be?
Lab41 is trying to answer these questions using algorithmic, architectural, and technical innovations.
Even the best analytic results are not always enough.
They often need to be accompanied by an explanation of how they were obtained.
We’re enhancing Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning through new forms of data presentation and analytic tradecraft.
The interpretation, implementation, and enforcement of policy are largely manual.
These processes that vary across organizations. Analysts often struggle to determine which data they can access, share, and use.
We’re working to make Intelligent Data a reality by developing policy controls to improve analysis and protect privacy.
